WHAT DOES AN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION ASSISTANT DO?
- assists in pre-schools, daycares or other childcare settings planning and delivering educational activities while supporting general supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of the children
WHAT DO I NEED TO START?
- be entering grade 11 or 12
- posess strong interpersonal and communication skills
- prior experience working with children is an asset
- two pieces of government-issued photo identification (BCID, Passport, PR card, etc.)
- this program has additional requirements that must be met upon acceptance into the program in order to satisfy the licensure regulations set by the Early Childhood Registry of the BC Ministry for Children & Families. These requirements include: a Criminal Record Check for Children and Vulnerable Adults through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, and a Student Health Declaration
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

- 16 graduation credits: Early Childhood Education Assistant (ECEA): Care, Nurture, Wellness and Child Guidance 12, ECEA: Child Growth and Development 12, Child Development and Caregiving 12, and Work Experience 12B
- Post-Secondary credits for ECE 3230 and ECE 3100
- connections to employers through up to 120 hours of work experience in diverse, licensed ECE settings
- preferential seating in Burnaby Community & Continuing Education’s Early Childhood Education Certification program
- knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework, the Code of Ethics for Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia, and BC Child Care Licensing Regulations
- please note:Β ECE3100/3230 courses follow the guidelines set by the Early Childhood Educator Registry. The course content and competencies are the same as those offered at other BC Community Colleges
WHEN AND WHERE IS THE PROGRAM OFFERED?
- periods 3, 4, 7 & 8 (afternoons for the full school year)
- Burnaby North Secondary School
- attend current school during the mornings to complete other courses
